NCVA Volunteer Positons

Current Volunteer Openings

The list below is by no means a comprehensive list, but check here first. If you are interested in other volunteer possibilities that you don't see here, don't hesitate to contact us!

***Please make sure that you contact the NCVA for more details before taking on a volunteer role. In some cases part of the work has already been completed.***

Veg Business Liaison Officers: Want to see more benefits for NCVA members? A longer newsletter? How about a Veg Fest for Ottawa? The NCVA needs several volunteers to contact local and national businesses for support and sponsorship. This role is crucial in ensuring the continuation and expansion of NCVA activities.

Potluck Assistant: Each month the NCVA hosts a vegan potluck. There's a variety of tasks that we need help with including set-up, tear down, and manning the NCVA check-in table. Potluck volunteers will get the privelidge of going first in the buffet line.

Newsletter Writers: We are always looking for new and exciting articles to feature in our newsletters.

Newsletter Delivery People: Our newsletter is printed bi-monthly and we'd love to have some volunteers to help distribute it. The newsletter is a great resource for promoting a plant-based diet through recipes, restaurant and product reviews, as well as great articles. Help us to distribute the newsletters businesses and various other locations. You can walk, bike, ride the bus or drive - either way we'd love you're help!

Information Booth Events Staff: Are you knowledgeable about the environmental, ethical and health consequences of food choices? Are you good with the public? Friendly? Able to handle disagreement and tolerate different views? We attend a variety of events throughout the year. These events provide us with amazing opportunities to outreach and spread the NCVA message. We provide training for people who are interested but want to learn more.

Events Driver: We need someone with a car to help transport materials and volunteers to occasional events.

Fundraising Coordinator: This position involves deciding between and implementing a variety of fundraising initiatives. This position is appropriate for someone who has some experience with marketing, good writing skills, and possibly, but not necessarily, an accounting background.

Media Assistant: Would you like to help create a buzz for the NCVA? You would do media research for vegetarian related articles and post on community and editorial calendars. We especially need volunteers to help us track and respond to articles in our local and national newspapers that are related to NCVA issues! Experience is helpful but not necessary.

French Outreach Volunteers: We need French speakers who want to help us reach out to that community through attending events, creating materials, and contacting French businesses.

Translators: We have a wealth of information about moving towards a plant-based diet and would love to translate these materials into other languages. If you are able to write fluently in a language other than English and would like to translate our materials please contact us! This is an important way for NCVA to be able to reach out to various cultural communities.

Poster People: The NCVA would like to advertise some of our activities and events via posters around the city. Super flexible, in your neighbourhood only, at your convenience. Good way to get involved without a huge commitment.

Download the NCVA's General Outreach Poster and put one up in your neighbourhood, at your work, and local businesses (don't forget to ask permission first!). We truly appreciate your help and support!

Social Group Coordinator: We've had requests to arrange regular meet-ups for singles, GLBT, and parents, but we have no coordinator! The ideal candidate would be someone willing to be a central contact to arrange meeting times and locations.

Restaurant Researchers: The NCVA is building an interactive online directory of veg-friendly restaurants and businesses. We need your help in exploring all the veg restaurants the National Capital Region especially in less visited areas (West End, Chinatown). This is an easy and fun way to volunteer with us to help build a better community for veg*n in Ottawa.

Vegan Products Researchers: This is an easy and on-going volunteer campaign to find out more about the resources available for vegan products. The info will be posted on NCVA's website for vegans, vegetarians and others to access and use. Volunteers conduct research and create a resource list of vegan-friendly items such as shoes, beer, sexual health products and health care products and where they can be purchased.
